I'd edit the post, but I think it will be of more service if I leave it the way it is, so the comments speak for themselves. My last post went to some effort to defend the editors of Kotaku, and to separate them and their principles from those of their blatantly antagonistic, commenting readership.

[info]tekanji has alerted me to the error of my ways, in the previous post's comments, and she links an article that sheds light on the real situation at Kotaku, which I--embarassingly--did not know about. With my cluelessness in mind, I think I'm going to head over to Cerise and read up before I go gallivanting around making statements that turn out to go against so many of the reasons I started this blog.

So I started this mainly after realizing Kotaku was not the best place to vent my rage at the male gaming community. I don't wrap Kotaku up in that, since I respect their editors and it is more their often braindead, more often bigoted slimeball male readership that gets my back up. I don't really agree with Cerise in their assertion that Kotaku espouses "rabidly misogynistic sentiments." Mostly because I separate the predominantly lucid and fair editors from the frothing-at-the-mouth, flame-war hungry responders.

And yes, today's post I linked previously does kind of place me in that latter category.

Hence this blog. I haven't really used Livejournal since the hot and heavy fandom days of LOTR slash and, since then, I haven't really had cause or inclination to keep up with it much. But if I'd been asked to describe myself at that time, gamer wouldn't have been one of the words I'd choose. I grew up with games but buried myself in books for awhile. Now, in my last year of college, I have (arguably, unwisely) returned to the pixellated realms. With a vengeance. And with a fist held ready to knock the teeth out of the first guy who tells me I don't like EVE Online because I can't try on new clothes in-game.
